Full time
As a Payroll Technician, you will participate in the management of the full payroll cycle for approximately 5,000 employees across Canada. You will contribute to the accuracy, compliance, and reliability of payroll data in collaboration with HR, HRIS, and management teams. You will also provide operational payroll support while ensuring compliance with legal and tax requirements as well as organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, verify, and enter data required for payroll processing (hours worked, bonuses, leaves, absences, job or salary changes).
- Ensure the accuracy of data transmitted through the HRIS and time management systems, including validation, corrections, and follow-up on discrepancies.
- Perform case analyses and prepare files for review by the payroll analyst or payroll manager.
- Complete pre-payroll controls (timesheets, adjustments, bonuses, employee statuses).
- Support HR partners in the use of HRIS payroll-related functionalities.
- Collaborate with the HRIS team to update employee records following organizational changes.
- Identify errors or inconsistencies and make required corrections in the HRIS or follow up with the appropriate stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, tax regulations, and internal payroll policies.
- Support the year-end process (T4s, RL-1s, summaries) through data verification and filing.
- Prepare and reconcile general ledger (GL) entries for Canadian payroll.
- Reconcile government remittances and ensure payments are made on time.
- Generate monthly accounting entries for group insurance invoices and reconcile outstanding balances against received payments.
- Prepare monitoring reports for overpaid vacation amounts.
Required Profile
- Diploma (DEC) in Administration, Accounting, Human Resources Management, or another relevant field.
- 3 to 5 years of full-cycle payroll experience (multi-site experience is an asset).
- Proficiency with Workday (an asset).
- Experience processing payroll for multiple Canadian provinces.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Canadian Payroll Certification (PCP) or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of the full payroll cycle and the management of time and vacation banks.
- Bilingual in French and English, both written and spoken.
- Demonstrates rigor, autonomy, and attention to detail.
